Can you believe it? We are already into September! I'm sure we have all noticed that the weather has become a lot cooler in the mornings and evenings in Manitoba.
In this new post I will be sharing my tips and tricks on how I transition from summer into fall. This includes wearing layers for in the mornings and evenings when the weather is cool but being able to take off those layers while looking stylish for those warm afternoons.
If you haven't already read my first blog post of the Wardrobe 101 series, I suggest you do! It has some of the tips and tricks I use to keep organized.
Now, this time of the year in Manitoba, the leaves are still green on the trees, you have that warm summer sun in the afternoons and the days are beginning to get a little shorter.
I personally don't like to jump into Fall full force this time of the year. I love the bright light clothes of summer and I would like to keep wearing them for as long as I can.
How to Transition
Remember to not make things complicated. The biggest organizing tip I use is by keeping my clothes separated by a warm season wardrobe (spring & summer) and a cold season wardrobe (fall & winter). This trick saves me so much time with getting ready but also keeping in season and on trend.
Currently, my wardrobe is setup with my warm season wardrobe!
The first step that you are going to do is look at what you've got, with my hanger trick this step allows me to get through this quickly. I am able to pick out the clothes I didn't wear. I usually will try it on again, ask myself why I didn't wear it, and depending on the answer, keep, sell or donate the item.
If I decide on keeping the item, I will add a small elastic to the hanger, that way I know it wasn't worn last year and if I don't wear it the following year, maybe its time to let it go. Now I use this trick only with my everyday wardrobe, I would not suggest you doing this with your fancy dresses or other occasional clothes.
Fall Layers
Layers, Layers & more Layers! This time of year is perfect for layering your favourite pieces up in the mornings and evenings but by being able to remove them in the afternoons.
Now this step is quite similar to the layering when transitioning into Spring! It's not winter yet beautiful, so keep those bulky sweaters put away!
✨Use those light sweaters, cardigans, blazers, tights & nylons!
These pieces can easily be removed throughout the day as things warm up.
Shoes
Depending on your everyday life and what you do for work, you can still keep wearing those nice summery shoes. A few simple tricks is adding socks or nylons to the type of shoes you wear.
This next trick I'm about to share with you, I'm sure you all are going to fall in love! It allows you to be able to wear shoes that show off your toes but allowing you to have a little bit of extra warmth. Now I know you're probably thinking nylons, but the truth is, its the type of nylon that matters.
While out shopping for some new work wear, I found these amazing and unique nylons!
Fall Color Palette
As fall approaches, why not start to incorporate some warm colors into your wardrobe. Fall is very much made of earthy tones, such as, oranges, browns, golds, darker blues, and burgundies.
Since these colors can be quite dark, look for shades in those colors that are a little lighter, this can help with the transition early on and then help with fully transitioning.
Fall Fabrics
Cashmere, wool, tweed, and flannel are usually the most common fabrics for fall. Keeping these fabrics in mind, you can easily add them to your wardrobe while continuing to wear lighter summery fabrics.
Leather & Fur
Leather is a stylish material for the fall that can also give you that extra warmth. Fur is another great accessory, now I wouldn't bring out a fur coat just yet! But I would bring out smaller and lighter fur accessories to start incorporating into your outfit.
Accessories
While transitioning, depending what you are wearing... Adding bold chunky jewelry is an amazing idea. These pieces can get lost once things start to cool down with all the layers and chunk knits.
Hats are also something that you can incorporate, many influencers you see wearing a fedora in a camel, brown, beige or black color.
Scarves are another great accessor to add, there are so many different ways to wear a scarf!
XOXO SGR!
